Slavery/Gulaamgiri - Gyan Books

About The Book: Slavery (Gulamgiri), written by Jotirao Govindrao Phule (1827–1896) in 1873, is a pioneering social and political critique of caste-based oppression in India. Phule compares the condition of lower castes in Hindu society to that of enslaved people, challenging Brahmanical dominance and advocating for social equality and education for the marginalized. Written in Marathi, Gulamgiri is one of the earliest works in Indian social reform literature. It laid the foundation for anti-caste movements and inspired generations of reformers and activists.
