A plot that goes brown in the hard months does not hold deer.
You plant this mix for year-round forage, not a short green flush.
On The Plot: You walk the edge at last light and watch deer work clover that still has protein in it.
Clover And Alfalfa: Four clover varieties and one alfalfa, with forages listed above 30 percent protein.
Half Acre Jug: One 3.75 lb jug covers 1/2 acre.
Mow For Growth: When plants flower, mow the plot down to 6 to 8 inches to cut weeds and push new growth.
Soil And Sun: Full or partial sun, pH 6.0 to 7.0, seed 1/4 inch or less into dark, rich, loam, sand, or moist soil.
Plant it, mow it, and let the plot work the rest of the year.
